On Friday the 17th of January, we had a special guest visit our Segen Academy!
Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Lauren Edwards, Labour MP for Rochester & Strood, alongside representatives from Solar Energy UK and the media, to our Segen Academy training centre.
As Chair of the APPG for Skills, Careers and Employment, Ms Edwards was keen to discover how the Academy will help to address the UK’s shortage of qualified renewable installers and support the Government’s net-zero targets.
Officially opened in November 2024, our Segen Academy is a state-of-the-art training centre offering hands-on and classroom-based accredited courses. With the capacity to train 1,600 installers annually, it is expected to play a crucial role in equipping apprentices and electricians with the necessary skills to enter the renewables sector. While also helping installation companies upskill their existing teams—fostering expertise and driving growth within the industry.
After touring the Academy and Segen’s warehouse, Ms. Edwards shared her thoughts:
“The Government is dedicating significant attention and resources towards making sure the UK meets its clean energy targets. However, that will not be impossible without a workforce equipped with the necessary skills.
“As Chair of the APPG for Skills, Careers and Employment, I am committed to fostering green skills development, particularly for those working in sectors such as engineering and construction. When we consider workforce planning for the next 10 to 30 years, it is clear that these workers will need these skills to maintain secure, well-paid employment.
“The Segen Academy is an impressive and innovative facility that I believe is leading the way [in delivering green skills training], and I am proud it is in my constituency. What I’m keen to learn now is how we can expand this model across the entire UK.”
