Solar generation record broken again as July smashes figures!

The country’s solar sector reached a major milestone in July, with solar PV representing 14.4% of total grid power. As reported by Solar Energy UK, figures from the National Energy System Operator (NESO) show that this comfortably surpassed the previous monthly record of 12.4% set in May and marked a sharp rise from the 9.6% recorded in July 2025.

In total, our solar systems generated a whopping  3.2 terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity during the month.

The increase in generation, of course, is no simple coincidence, as the uptake in solar energy records aligns with rapid growth in deployment across the UK. According to statistics highlighted in the Solar Energy UK report, 142,536 solar installations were completed during the first six months of the year, making the first half of 2026 the highest total for any initial half-year period since the end of the Feed-in Tariff in 2011.

Unsurprisingly, residential rooftops accounted for the bulk of these registrations. Commercial rooftop projects on warehouses, retail hubs, and industrial sites add further volume, though many fall outside formal MCS tracking, which could imply the number is even larger than reported.

The July numbers build on momentum established throughout 2025, when annual solar generation grew by 34.2% compared to 2024. Total renewable sources delivered 52.1% of GB electricity last year, marking only the second time renewables have cleared the 50% mark over a full calendar year.

At the same time, battery energy storage systems (BESS) are taking on a larger operational role. In 2025, annual BESS output surpassed hydro storage for the first time. Rapidly declining technology costs, with battery system prices dropping roughly 40% between 2017 and early 2025, have accelerated the battery-fication across residential, commercial, and utility sectors.

And yet, there’s still more work to do! At Segen, we stock the largest collection of top-quality products from the world’s leading PV and storage suppliers. To check out our full range, become a Segen customer today!
