ENERGY PRICES RISE AGAIN

Homeowners Hit with Huge Bills

In the UK, millions of households will see their energy bills jump by more than 50% in April after Ofgem against a ‘record-breaking increase to its price cap’.  

The new cap will allow energy suppliers to charge a customer a maximum of £1,971 per year which means that the average household energy bills with an increase by £693. In addition to this, prepayment meter customers will see an increase of £708.  

Rishi to the Rescue?

Chancellor Rishi Sunak is set to announce support to ease the pressure of rising bills. On Thursday 3rd February Rishi Sunak announced a £150 council tax rebate to be paid to households in April 2022, and he stated that “around 80% of all homes in England will benefit”.  

Fuel poverty has increased significantly this year and around 6 million people could be struggling to heat and power their homes. Charities have discussed how the rise of energy bills will affect those on the lowest income which could result in households struggling to afford other essentials such as clothing and food.
